Auxiliary Open to men and women of all ages
Our Story:
In January, 1926, a large card party was held at the
Graham Homestend in Pompton Falls, for the benefit of
the Pompton Falls Fire Company. At this gathering the
needs of a Women's Auxiliary was discussed, and in March,
1926, through the efforts of Miss Isabella Graham and
her sisters, a preliminary meeting was held at the Fire
House. Officers were elected and a committee appointed
to draft a set of By-Laws to conform with those used
by the Fire Company.
Miss Isabella Graham was unanimously chosen president.
Her death, in less than a year, was a great loss to
the organization. The unexpired term was filled in by
Mrs. Mitchell Dawes, who was first vice-president. Following
her, were Miss Sarah Graham, Mrs. Armstrong, who served
for three years; then Mrs. Durgy, Mrs. Robertson and
Mrs. Cook and in 1938, Mrs. Cooper was elected to that
office and is still active.
The other offices besides the president, are vice-president,
secretary, treasurer, financial secretary and three
trustees. All of these offices have had changes during
the thirteen years the auxiliary has been active except
the treasurer. Mrs. William Steele has held that office
from the day of the organizing to the present time.
Our activities have been mainly to raise money to
help the Fireman, and also to serve at the annual clambakes
and at the turkey dinners, which are held twice a year.
Every year in December, a Christmas party for all
members of the auxiliary is held, either at the fire
house or at the home of a member. Between Christmas
and New Years the fireman and their wives join the ladies
and their husbands for an Annual Hobby Party at the
fire house.
